Banner-making, pajamas, and court nominations were a few of the many things students did to start off Homecoming week here at Edsel Ford. This exciting week began with class booth making, where students were able to come out and help the student council create fundraiser booths for this Friday’s homecoming game! “It was a fun way to get together with my class and create something fun!” said class of 2026 president, Fiona Kane.
Students were also able to show their pride by wearing spirit wear throughout the week. The lineup included Monday as Pajama Day, Wednesday as Character Day, Thursday as “Rhyme Without a Reason,” and Friday as Class Color Day. On Monday, while underclassmen dressed in theme in their cozy pajamas, seniors dressed to the nines for Senior Pride Day as they came together for their class photo. “Even though it was just a photo, it was exciting for the senior class to all come together, and we all had a really good time,” said senior Margaret Malone. As the week continued, Edsel Ford students showed their pride and spirit, all leading up to Friday.
Friday was a day full of amusing and school-spirited activities. The pep rally, held on the football field here at Edsel Ford, is a time when students and faculty come together to not only boost school spirit but also get students involved and excited for the so-called “main events” coming soon. The pep rally kicked off by introducing the Edsel Ford fall sports teams, including Varsity and JV Football, Volleyball, Swim, Field Hockey, and many more amazing athletes. As the event went on, students competed in games such as tug of war, musical chairs, and tic-tac-toe, as participants from every class competed for first place. After everyone’s hard work, the Juniors shone with a competitive win.
As the day carried on and the spirit stayed high, next up was the parade. Clubs, the band, and the homecoming court gathered together to walk in our annual homecoming parade Friday night, right before the big game. The parade consisted of performances from our outstanding band and cheer team, along with the presentation of the 2024 Homecoming Court. The Kings consisted of seniors Andrew Lovett, Jawad Narshallah, Ian Maness, Eli Richardson, and Brendan Welch, alongside the Queens: seniors LolaRose Song, Maisy Gerlach, Vincia DeSantis, Moriah Bartholomei, and Julianna Zhutaj.
Following the parade, the Edsel Ford High School Varsity Football Team got into “game mode” for their big game against Clarenceville High School. “I think we’re prepared and excited to play tonight,” said senior Brendan Welch right before taking the field. Throughout the game, the crowd was filled with energy and excitement, screaming and cheering for our fellow Thunderbirds. As halftime rolled around, the Edsel Ford Band and Color Guard took the field for their amazing performance, guiding us through a medley of music with outstanding choreography. After the incredible halftime performance, it was time to announce the Homecoming King and Queen. The homecoming court was introduced one by one, escorted by both family and each other. As the crowd went silent, waiting for the Queen and King to be announced, there was an air of anticipation. “Your 2024 Homecoming Queen is…,” the crowd began to drumroll. “LolaRose Song! And your Homecoming King, Ian Maness!” “It was really fun being on court and being able to ride in a fancy car with Maisy,” said LolaRose Song post-crowning. After the crowning of the 2024 Homecoming King and Queen, the stands remained loud for the remainder of the game as the Thunderbirds took home their first homecoming win since 2013.
